College Entertainment for Less

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

By Katie Spencer Most of these activities are free or very cheap: * Campus music or dance recitals * College theater productions * Guest speakers * Poetry readings * Museum tours * Sports-either participate or go route for your school * Film and video showings * Art openings * Clubs on campus If you are looking to stray away from campus here are some off campus fun frugal ideas: * Go watch a local band, they usually play at bars but the cover is usually $5-$10 to sit and enjoy and be in a sociable setting * Go to the movies, catch the matinee film during the day when prices are less expensive * Explore natural parks or recreation facilities where you can work out or simply enjoy the surrounding * If you have a pool in your apartment complex or have friends that do, gather round and soak up the rays and have some fun. * If you are in cold climates, go sledding in the wintertime, its an activity that youre never too old for. * Find a new hobby Of course those are all inexpensive ways to have fun but if you like the social gatherings of being around your friends which means going out to eat, going to new clubs, and so forth, here are a view tips to save on some cash. * If going out to eat with friends, snack on something before hand so your meal wont be as expensive because you wont be as hungry. Stay away from drinks and desserts because prices will be jacked up. * Go to bars or clubs where the cover is free. If of age, limit yourself on drinks, and find out about the specials. * Swap clothes with friends instead of shopping for new ones that you may only where once depending on the occasion. * Choose to be the designated driver so wont be spending money on drinks and know everyone will get home safely. * Dont go out every night of the week. Remember you do still have class to attend to. So if planning to go out, choose one night to go out and make the other a low key night such as making it a blockbuster night or picking up where you left off in the book you were reading. College is about having fun but also getting an education so dont let the fun experiences get the best of you and forget why you are where you are. If you get an A then its a for sure reason to go out and have some fun. Set goals for yourself and once you achieve them, give yourself credit! Fly Fishing - Catch and Release Yourself

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

By Richard Chapo When fly fishing, many anglers prefer to catch and release their fly fishing prizes. Still, what should you do when youre the prize? Thats Gotta Hurt If you become a fly fishing fanatic, you will inevitably hook yourself one day. Of course, this has never happened to me, but my friends have done it repeatedly. Being a thoughtful and observant person, Ive seen how they go about unhooking themselves from a fly. Again, this is never happened to me. Ever. No, I wont take a lie detector test. The Barb The best hook removal method depends on the location of the hook barb. The barb is the part of the hook that keeps the hook from simply sliding back out of the fish or, in this case, you. The essential question is which direction will result in the least damage from the barb. A friend of mine once managed to hook himself through the flap of skin between the thumb and forefinger. The hook penetrated from the top of this hand through to the palm. The barb had gone all the way through the skin. In such a situation, the best method is simply to cut the line at the base of the hook and push it the rest of the way through the skin. This technique will result in a minimum of damage. Another friend of mine once slipped on a rock and hooked himself something fierce in the meat section of the palm about an inch below the pinkie. There wasnt anyway to push the hook through, so it had to be pulled back out the way it went in. The problem, of course, is the barb could have caused a lot of damage on the way back out. So, whats the solution? There are two solutions [excluding the hospital] to avoiding barb damage. The first requires two people. The hooked individual should press the hook slowly toward the curve of the hook. Put another way, you want to compress this curve of the hook. This sounds brutal, but actually should cause the barb to retract from the meat of your hand. The second person then applies pressure to both sides of the entry point to pull it open. The hooked individual should then GENTLY slide the hook out trying to follow the curve of the entry path. Sounds painful, but it works. If youre alone, follow the same instructions but youll have to do without the pressure. Just go slow and easy. If the hook doesnt slide, dont force it. Just head off to the local emergency room. Catch and release is a good way to fish. Even if you catch yourself. Rick Chapo is with NomadJournals.com - makers of diary and writing journals for fly fishing. Stuttering And How It Affects A Persons Daily Life

Monday, August 27th, 2007

By Steve Hill For people who are fluent, it is hard to comprehend what it must be like to have a stutter. This article describes some of the tasks that can prove difficult and stressful for the person who has a stutter, tasks which fluent people simply take for granted. My name is Stephen Hill and I am somebody who has managed to overcome a stutter which had affected my life for eighteen years. When I was at school, I would dread the time when I would have to read out aloud in class out of a book. I would count down to which paragraph I would have to read and then I would look through to see which words I was going to have to say. I was hoping that there would not be many words beginning with b,d,v, or g, as I found these words especially hard to say. When speaking in a conversation I would always try to avoid these words or would think of an alternative word to say. When reading though, you have to read what is written. I had many unpleasant days attempting to read and I am now very happy those days are over. Trying to meet girls and to get a girlfriend proved very difficult and not because I am ugly. My negative brain would always be talking to me stating that a particular girl that I was interested in would not want to go out with someone who has a stutter. If I did manage to date a girl, I would then have the horror of meeting her family and friends. Socialising when you have a stutter is not easy. Other areas of life which proved difficult for me were: Ordering food or drink at a bar Trying to obtain employment Speaking on the telephone Answering peoples questions Introducing people Introducing myself to a group of people, for example at the start of a course at work As you can tell, it is quite difficult having a stutter at times. Stephen Hill has a number of websites including: http://www.stammering-stuttering.co.uk http://www.stutter-cure.com http://www.aromatherapy-blend-essential-oil.co.uk Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Steve_Hill http://EzineArticles.com/?Stuttering-And-How-It-Affects-A-Persons-Daily-Life&id=90768 buy they dream most online can pharmaceutical of propecia each cheap over finasteride after finasteride into trade between leads how buy over purchase more finasteride same rx see on with line my

The Dirty Little Secrets About “Totally Free Personals” You Need To Know

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

By Bob Simons You are looking to join the online dating world, but dont think you should have to spend a lot of money to create online personal profiles? Well there are plenty of totally free personals websites out there on the web that can bring you great results. You just need to know where to look for them and what to look for when you find those totally free personals. First, many dating services will tell you that they are totally free personals, and technically they are. You can create online personal profiles for free. However, if you look a little further, you will not be able to communicate with anyone without paying a fee. Since you really need to communicate with people to find a good match, these sites are not really totally free personals to you. So make sure you read all the fine print on these sites to make sure that they are really a no membership free personals site and will not only allow you to post for free, but also communicate with others. Next, you need to know what you are getting from your free personals dating site. However, many sites that say you get totally free personal ads are really masking pornography or want you to upgrade to pornography. For most people who are looking for a dating relationship, they want a totally free personals site that allows for free discreet personals so they can meet people where friendship and possibly sexual interaction comes as a natural form from dating. When posting your profile on a totally free personals site, you need to still follow the same guidelines as if you were posting on the fee-based sites. If you are on a legitimate site, they will have a template for you, and they will allow you to search the totally free personals using demographics and interests. A few of the free personals sites even allow people to post pictures, so you can see the people with whom you are communicating. Remember though, when you are posting your free personals, you need to be as honest as possible. Dont try to be cutesy or lie. Inevitably, you will get caught in your lie, making your personals useless. If you are serious about attracting people, you want to make sure your interests are honest, that your picture is really you, and that your personals ad reflects who you really are. Also, remember to share about who you are, but dont share too much in your personal profile. Unfortunately, there are people out there who try to exploit people interested in dating, especially in totally free personals sites where it does not cost them anything to find their victims. Make sure you do not share where you live, your phone number, banking information, etc. with anyone on the free personals area. Also, even if you have met a person through your free personals site that you really have a connection, be very wary if they start asking you to send them money. Just use common sense when using totally free personals to make sure you are keeping yourself and your finances safe. No cost personals can be just as fun as fee-based personals sites. Just take the time to find totally free personals and make sure you read the fine print before you post anything. Remember it doesnt have to cost a bundle to find a person to date, and free personals offer that outlet. To find the best totally free personals resources, please visit KeyDatingInfo.us where you will find more information about no membership free personals, single women seeking men sources and the best US dating services. Elope - Tie-the-Knot On Miami Beach Before Going On A Honeymoon Cruise

Friday, August 24th, 2007

By Monique N. Gilbert Looking to find a way to fit a beautiful wedding and honeymoon into your busy lifestyle without going broke? Savvy brides and grooms-to-be have discovered a wonderful and economical way to say I do that is full of romance and adventure. An increasing number of couples are choosing to have romantic tropical Miami Beach weddings before they go on their honeymoon cruises. The notion of getting married away from home, and combining the marriage ceremony and honeymoon has become extremely popular as more couples plan and pay for their own wedding celebrations. The ease and cost savings of having a destination wedding and honeymoon are two main factors for this new trend. One of the main attractions to this type of destination wedding is that non-Florida residents and foreign couples can get a Florida marriage license quickly and easily. They can fly into Miami, get their Florida marriage license in person, and have a beautiful ceremony on South Beach; all before they go bon voyage from the Port of Miami. Florida also allows out-of-state and international couples to apply for their marriage licenses by mail and get all the paperwork straightened out before they arrive in Miami. This convenience is most appreciated by busy couples who are short on time and want help arranging their wedding. The convenience of coming into town, having your beach wedding ceremony all arranged and getting married before leaving on a cruise, sets the right mood for a happy honeymoon departure. Many couples arrive in Miami and have their wedding ceremony on the beach the day before they depart on their cruise. They stay at a luxury Miami Beach hotel and have their marriage ceremony on the beach behind their hotel or at a public beach by South Beach. Other couples prefer to have their wedding ceremony the same day that they go on their cruise. Either way, couples love the idea of getting married on South Beach before leaving the Port of Miami as husband and wife. When they step aboard the ship, they are already celebrating their joyous occasion, and are looking forward to continuing their celebrations throughout the night at sea. They get to be causal, carefree and leave their worries behind. Romance is all around them and they are all set to start their new life together in an exciting and loving way. The appeal to having your honeymoon at sea is that with all the cruise ship activities and amenities, you will have plenty to do and fun to experience. You get to eat, drink and be merry. You can kick back and relax by the pool, or you can partake in the various onboard recreations like rock climbing, skeet shooting, dancing and the like. You also can go out on tours and adventures when your ship docks at various ports. The cost savings is the other attraction. Couples can apply the money saved by having a destination wedding to their honeymoon festivities. Instead of paying thousands of dollars for a one-day traditional wedding and reception, you can have a romantic beach marriage ceremony and a one-to-two week extravaganza with money to spare. You can have a romantic wedding, travel in luxury, dine like royalty and create an assortment of memories that will last the rest of your lives. Join the many couples who want to have memorable, affordable and intimate nuptials, with a newlywed adventure afterwards. Take charge of your destiny and elope to Miami Beach before you set sail. High Ho Silver

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

By Martin Swinton Second only to gold as a precious metal, silver has always been cherished. Shimmering and chic, silver is always an elegant addition to any home. Sterling, Sheffield Plate, silverplate, German Silver, hallmarks theres lots to take in. Heres what you should know. Sterling Silver Sterling is the highest quality of silver. Pure silver is too soft for practical use so it has to be mixed alloyed with another metal. Sterling silver is 925 parts silver to 75 parts copper for every 1,000 parts. Since it is easy to melt down silver to convert it to coin, a system to test assay silver and mark it was implemented. This system is called hallmarking and the English system is the oldest. Hallmarking is a series of symbols and letters that indicates the place of origin, year that an item was made and maker. Most European countries follow hallmark procedures similar to the English system. It was developed to ensure consumers were getting what they paid for. U.S. sterling is stamped “Sterling.” There are a great many hallmarks and very few people are able to know who made any item simply by looking at a hallmark. Even silver connoisseurs consult their hallmark guides to identify hallmarks. After a 1975 treaty, a new sterling standard was adopted to indicate sterling with the stamp “.925.” It was implemented to eliminate confusion across languages. Sheffield Plate Sheffield Plate named after the town of Sheffield, England is less costly than sterling. Sheffield Plate was made by placing copper in between silver and rolling it into thin sheets and fashioned into silverware. In the mid-1880s, electroplating an even more cost-effective procedure replaced Sheffield Plate as the low-cost alternative to sterling. Silverplate Electroplating is a process whereby a less valuable base metal (copper, nickel) is plated with silver. Its indicated by “EPNS” Electroplate on Nickel Silver, “EPC” Electroplate on Copper, or, youll see an item marked “silverplate.” German and Nickel Silver Neither is silver, but rather they are a mix of nickel, copper and zinc. The terms nickel and German silver are used interchangeably and will be marked G. Silver or German Silver. Spotting Fakes Any candlestick can be used to cast a mould to make an exact replica hallmarks and all. But seeing two candlesticks that are exactly alike can be the tip off to a fake. Real hallmarks are applied individually, by hand, and its impossible to put them on the exact same spot on two pieces. So, be suspicious when a pair of candlesticks has hallmarks in the exact same place. Forged hallmarks are applied to new pieces so that they can be passed off as antique or to silverplate so that it can be passed off as sterling. Forged marks often have soft outlines. Watch for transposed hallmarks when a hallmark from a smaller sterling item is cut out and placed on something that is not sterling. This real hallmark is soldered onto the new item. A trick to check for this is to breathe on the piece. Since silver is generally colder than breath, the condensation will reveal the demarcation line of the soldering. Transposing marks was done in the 18th and 19th centuries to avoid paying taxes. Prices The value is determined by the age, rarity and quality. Buying Tips Look for hallmarks, stamps of “sterling” or “.925.” If it doesnt have these marks, its not sterling. And, it matters because sterling is worth about twice as much as other types of silver. Remember items stamped “.925″ were most likely manufactured after 1975. Get a book on silver hallmarks and dont be shy to pull it out and use it when youre shopping for silver. A good one to use is Millers Silver & Sheffield Plate Marks. Dont let anyone try to convince you that EPNS or G. Silver is sterling. Martin Swinton lives in Toronto, Canada and owns Take-A-Boo Emporium, a popular local antique shop. How To Find The Online Dating Site That’s Right For You

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Jonathan White Once considered the exclusive territory of adulterous men, computer nerds and psychos using false identities, internet dating has now lost it’s stigma. In Europe and the USA, It’s now the most popular method of finding a partner, with 65% of singletons between the ages of 25 and 50 turning to the net. Gone are the sleazy chat-rooms, pseudonyms and fake photos, now online daters upload entire photo albums, write lengthy descriptions of themselves and detail their exact preferences - and are happy to admit that this is how they found their partners. But this new found confidence in the medium has generated a plethora of new dating sites; so how do you decide which is the right one for you and how do you get the best out of your chosen site? Follow these few simple steps and I guarantee that you wont go wrong:- 1. Be honest with yourself about what you’re looking for. Do you just want to chat with other cyber folk or do you genuinely want to meet a new partner? If you just want a whole bunch of new pen-pals, there are many sites that aren’t particularly bothered about location so if, for example, you’re in Manchester, England, you can make new friends in Idaho or Madrid. But if you actually plan to meet anyone you make contact with, then choose a service that’s specific to either the country in which you live, or better still, the city or area. 2. Are you seeking a very specific type of partner? There are a great many niche sites out there so if you want to meet, say, other single parents or other motorbike enthusiasts, just type in ’single parent dating’ or ‘biker dating’ into your preferred search engine and you’ll probably find that you’ll be presented with a choice of suitable dating services. 3. Are you willing to pay to join a dating site? Cyberspace is no different to the ‘real’ world in this respect - you get what you pay for! If the operators of a particular site aren’t confident enough in their offering to actually charge a membership fee, you have to ask yourself why. The average monthly subscription to a high calibre dating site is usually no more expensive than a round of drinks so surely it’s worth it if it means you might actually meet your perfect partner by signing up. 4. OK, you’ve found the dating service that you believe is just right for you. What now? Well, to get the best results from your chosen site, it’s up to you to get the most out of your membership by posting a bright, upbeat, confident profile and uploading a photo to accompany it. 95% of dating site users will only respond to people who have bothered to provide a photo of themselves; after all, you want to see what other members look like so it stands to reason that others will feel exactly the same way about you. And don’t be modest - if you think you’re pretty darn attractive, then now is exactly the right time to shout it from the roof tops! And finally…and this is the most obvious piece of advice as well as being the most important…once you’ve signed up to an online dating site, don’t wait for others to get in contact, search through the list of members who fall within your chosen criteria and when you like the look and sound of someone, send them a message and introduce yourself. Chances are, if you’ve identified someone with whom you might have things in common and to whom you are attracted, then you can bet your bottom dollar that they’ll more than likely be delighted to hear from you. So there you have it; if you’re single and sick of being so, find the right online dating site and kick start your love life today. Have fun and happy hunting! Always use “hot” oils in extremely weak dilution of less than one percent for skin application. Commonly used “hot” essential oils known to have the potential to cause, skin irritation, include: basil (Ocimum basilicum), bergamot (Citrus bergamia), birch (Betula lenta), black pepper (Piper nigrum), cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum), clove (Eugenia aromatica), ginger (Zingiber officinale), expressed (cold pressed from peel) oils of lime, lemon, orange and grapefruit (Citrus limetta, limonum, sinensis and paradisi), lemongrass (Cymbopogon citrates), oregano (Origanum compactum), Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris), Siberian, balsam or silver fir (Abies siberica, alba, balsamea), thyme (Thymus vulgaris), wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) and in some cases, tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia), ylang ylang (Cananga odorata) and peppermint (Mentha piperita). If any of these essential oils is applied in a dilution of carrier oil on the skin and a hot, red irritation occurs this is the result of a burn to the skin that requires immediate attention. Always have a vegetable carrier oil like Pure Light Coconut Oil or Jojoba available to apply onto the skin in such cases! Apply a carrier oil will have an immediate effect of calming the skin irritation. Do not wash or rinse the area with water as this will drive the essential oils further into the skin and increase, not diminish discomfort. 10 Offline Tightwad Marketing Strategies to Help You Get More Clients

Friday, August 17th, 2007

By Donna Gunter Several years ago, in response to client requests for no-cost or low-cost marketing techniques, I coined the term “tightwad marketing”. My definition of tightwad marketing is the art of doing more with less, or using your creativity instead of your checkbook to get the word out about your business. Even though the saying, If you build it they will come worked for Kevin Costners character in the movie, Field of Dreams, life doesn’t often imitate art. Usually the first thing that pops into someones mind when they think about marketing is, I’ve got to place an ad. Place a few ads and soon your marketing budget has totally dried up. Statistics say that someone must see your ad six times in the same publication before thinking of using your business. If its a weekly or monthly publication, that could be six weeks to six months down the road, and you can’t afford to wait that long! In order for the public to find your field of dreams, here are ten inexpensive ways to get started: 1. Define your USP–your Unique Selling Proposition–and use it in everything that you do. Make sure your customer knows what it is that you do that is unique to you and your business. Don’t make them struggle to answer the question of why they should do business with you instead of your competitor. 2. Create joint ventures with other businesses that complement yours. For example, if youre a real estate agent, team up with a cleaning service, an interior decorator, and a personal chef to offer a nice packaged deal to a new home buyer. 3. Stress the benefits of what you do, not the product or service. Theres a great story thats passed around about the worlds most successful insurance salesman, who, when asked what he did for a living, responded, I buy life assurance. Most people responded, What do you mean? to which he replied, I buy life assurance for my clients at the best possible price. Would you like me to buy some for you? Make your potential customer think, I’ve got to get that! 4. Become newsworthy! Send out media releases to announce a new service or product or sponsorship of a charity event. Create an event or a special day. Link what you do to an existing trend or news event. Talk about your personal story in the business, i.e. if you went broke and bounded back, started to create one product and ended up with another, etc. Issue an award or give something away. Conduct a survey and report the results. Write a letter to the editor. 5. Talk to your customers. Call 5 previous customers and find out what they liked and didn’t like about their dealings with you, and how you might better serve them in the future. Have them write testimonials that you can use. Ask and reward them for referrals. 6. Love what you do and become a model of what youre selling. If you don’t absolutely love what you do and feel passionate about it, your customers are going to see right through you and not be convinced to buy what you are offering. For example, if youre a car mechanic and your shop sits on a parking lot full of clunkers that don’t run, why would anyone hire you to repair their car? Or, if youre a landscaper and your lawn is full of weeds and crabgrass, who wants to hire you to beautify their yard? If you don’t truly feel passionate about your business and become a living model of that business to everyone you meet, then find another business! 7. Network, network, network! Join organizations, such as Chambers of Commerce, professional groups, civic groups, etc. and any type of organization to which your target market might belong. Attend community events like business open-houses or neighborhood picnics. Sales master Joe Girard lives by his Law of 250, which states that everyone knows about 250 people well enough to invite to their wedding or to be in attendance at their funeral. Lesson: Perhaps the person youre speaking with isnt interested in what you offer, but theres a good chance s/he knows someone who is250 of them! 8. Use attention-getting devices — make yourself visible. Always have business cards on hand to distribute. Have a t-shirt personalized with your business name and wear it when you run errands. Wear an outfit or uniform that shows the world who you are. UPS has taken their identity as seen in their brown trucks and uniforms and embraced it with the tag line in their current commercials, “What can brown do for you?” 9. Talk and teach. Approach local organizations about being a guest speaker at their next meeting. Give a workshop that is open to public and is low-cost/no-cost for participants and discuss a particular aspect of your business, or demonstrate what you do. Offer them valuable information, but leave them hungry for more. For example, a financial planner might offer a free seminar called, Planning for Retirement as a Thirty-something or a bank loan officer might offer a workshop in conjunction with a real estate agency called, Everything a First-Time Homebuyer Needs to Know But is Too Scared to Ask. Or, work with your local college or recreation department and get paid to teach what you know. 10. Implement 5 a day. Make a list of all the creative ways you can market your business, and implement 5 of them per day. Remember, in Tightwad Marketing, youre limited only by your imagination!
